Saint Chapelle

Sainte-Chapelle is located in the 4th arrondissement on Île de la Cité. “Holy Chapel” is a royal chapel built in the Gothic style within the medieval Palais de la Cité. It was built to house Louis IX’s collection of relics of Christ.

Above: the Rose window on the 2nd floor. The breath taking stained glass on the 2nd floor is arranged across 15 windows depicting 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments that recounts the history of the world until the arrival of the Relics in Paris in August 1239.

Above: St. Chapelle showing it’s proximity within the Palais de Justice de Paris. Sainte-Chapelle is no longer a church. It was secularised after the French Revolution and is now operated by the French Centre of National Monuments.
