Bayeux

The town of Bayeux is a major tourist attraction and is best known for the Bayeux Tapestry which depicts the events of the Normal Conquest in 1066. Bayeux train station is within easy walking distance to the city centre, museums and war memorials.

During WWII, Bayeux was the first major town in Normandy to be secured by the Allies during Operation Overlord (code name for the Battle of Normandy).

The Bayeux Memorial above commemorates more than 1,800 casualities of the Commonwealth forces those who died in Normandy and have no known grave. It is beside the Museum of the Battle of Normandy which shows a film on the Invasion of Normandy in several languages. It is a must see to comprehend the price for our freedom. The Bayeux War Cemetery is across the street.
