Roissy-en-France

My sister and I stumbled upon Roissy-en-France when we stayed at one of the hotels that services Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport. One-quarter of the airport is located in the commune of Roissy-en-France but none of its terminals are. The village of Roissy-en-France remains a typically Ile-de-France village.

Above and below: the Métalithe sculpture which is half-bird and half-plane. It was created by Alex Labejof and was inspired by the Concorde. It weighs approximately one ton and is made of stone, granite and metal.

Église Saint-Éloi (Church of Saint-Eloi) below was built across many centuries and was classified as an Historic Monument in 1942. The bell tower which dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries was formerly a watch tower. During the French Revolution, it was looted and then used as a meeting place for the village revolutionaries.

The closest station to Roissy-en-France is Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 station on line B of the RER, Paris Region’s express suburban rail system. It is not served by Paris Métro, RER, or suburban rail network.
